I have been reading, writing and studying poetry, especially haiku, senru and other related Japanese short poetic forms for some years now. My poems have appeared in online and printed journals and Anthologies. I have had about 30 poems published or accepted for publishing this year so far. I will be uploading them here. I would like to see contemporary short forms become more popular here in Wales, although Wales has it's own rich literary heritage and traditions in her native tongue, Cymraeg, which is why Wales is known as the Land of the Bards. Today both the older and innovative forms of short poetry are alive and kicking. After some planning, I would like to announce that I will be launching a new online literary journal on January first 2018 entitled...

Brevis - a journal of short poetry and prose from Wales and beyond.

I invite submissions of short poems, poetic prose and flash fiction in your native tongue, if that is not English, please send it with an accurate English translation. I don't mind what theme you choose for our first issue, surprise me. I am not interested in works that demean, vilify or poke fun at any individual or group of persons for any reason whatsoever, and please don't sent work that glorifies violence. I also believe that a good writer can express themselves powerfully without resorting to foul language.

I'd like to publish a wide variety of work, but probably not more than about 3 pieces per person, depending on the volume of submissions, so please don't send more than half a dozen for now. I don't mind previously published work provided you own the copyright but please tell us if it has been published before so that we can accredit it. You will be welcome to share a link to your own website or somewhere else where we can read more of your work. I look forward to hearing from you.

I'm sorry that there is no payment at this time, it will be a labour of love but authors will be able to download a PDF and the journal will be free for everyone to read online. I am really looking forward to reading your offerings. We can make this sparkle. Please email me at poetonthebeach@hotmail.com with your submissions. Thank you.
